After finding our 3 subjects to research, i decided to go and visit the Tate Modern gallery myself. I had been there previously a few times and I really love the gallery. I wanted to find things that are very imaginative that could relate to my work. Whilst i was there i took lots of photos, and sketches.
I found so much inspiration not just for this project but in general from this gallery. I loved the way that the pieces are spread out in big spacious rooms and it allows you to focus on one thing individually and nothing else can disturb that.
I know that these charcoal sketches are not metal, however when i saw it, the smudging from the charcoal at the edges really reminded me of the same effect that is left on metals sometimes when they have been heated or melted. These charcoal sketches are by Jannis Kounellis.
Inside the Tate, i found this huge bronze sculpture by Henri Laurens. I found this really beautiful. It was so eye catching because of its shape.
This war art by Leon Golub of the vietnam war, reallt reminded me of Marlene Dumas' work. The build up of material adn textures on the face detail is very similar to a lot of her work, expeically the "young boys" art by her.
Here, this nude painting really made me stare. It reminded me so much of Marlene Dumas, as she uses a lot of nude images, and also her images are not necesarrily bold and structured, some are very loosely painted. Image by Louise Bourgeois.
Although this fabric piece by, Jannis Kounellis is wool, the pastel colour palletes are very similar to the colours that Marlene Dumas paints in and i found that very interesting how the two can connect.
